Flipped Classrooms in Kindergarten
What does a flipped classroom look like in kindergarten? Here at Willard South, Jaime Roweton and Lindsay Wallace have been experimenting with this concept to strengthen the home-school connection with families. As I worked with the kindergarten teachers, Jaime had this to say about their new project. “Flipping the classroom is the way to answer the age-old question of how do we help at home. It allows parents to become part of our lessons. It gives them the opportunity to use the same language we use in the classroom.” Lindsay reports that since starting the flipped classroom design in mid February school-home communication has exploded. Parents are emailing, coming in, and posting comments on their blogs about how much they enjoy the new format. In a one-week window of time, Lindsay commented that there had been 164 views of their flipped classroom lessons. To get a peak into what they are doing, click on the links below.

Kindergarten Uses Data
Kindergarten teachers and kindergarten students have been busy working with data! The Kindergarten students helped make graphs of their favorite apples, their predictions about the circumference of the class pumpkins, and which apples made the best applesauce. The Kindergarten teachers have been busy looking at the student data in MasteryConnect, discussing what they see, and then planning how to use the data to guide instruction. This week Mrs. Bailey shares how she is using data in her classroom. Click on the link below to hear Mrs. Bailey explain.
